Competitions

Jack and Jills

Test your social dance skills.  Dance with a randomly selected partner to DJ-selected music.  Lots of levels are available.

Jack and Jills

A Jack and Jill contest is a fun way to test your social dancing skills.  No partner is necessary to participate; you’ll dance with other Jack and Jill competitors.  In preliminary and semifinal rounds, you will be judged individually, dancing in several heats – each with a randomly selected partner.  In the finals, you’ll be paired with one last partner at random.  Together, you and your partner will be judged as a couple.
(Swingin’ New England will adhere to the WSDC non-traditional gender roles for all Jack & Jill categories)

Winners will be registered with the World Swing Dance Council and earn points in that registry.

Entry fees for all Jack & Jills: $20

Swingin’ New England will have the following Jack and Jill contests:

* West Coast Swing Newcomer
* West Coast Swing Novice
* West Coast Swing Intermediate
* West Coast Swing Advanced
* West Coast Swing All Star
* West Coast Swing Invitational
* West Coast Swing Sophisticated

Dancers may compete in both a leveled contest and Sophisticated.

Rules

* Dancers may enter one level in any category.
* People are welcome to petition Swingin’ New England if they would like to be in a different placement. A combination of Event Directors and/or the Event’s Head Judge will make that decision.
* The format of the contests will be determined by a combination of the Event Directors and the Event’s Head Judge at the event. The decision will consider the level of the contest and number of registrants.
* All competitors must attend the competitor’s meeting.
* Swingin’ New England reserves the right to combine or cancel any contest due to insufficient enrollment.

Strictly Swings

Test your social dance skills with your regular partner.  You pick the partner, we pick the music.  Lots of levels.

A Strictly Swing contest is a fun way to test your social dancing skills.  You and your partner will be judged based on how well you dance to the music our DJs select.
(Swingin’ New England will adhere to the WSDC non-traditional gender roles for all Strictly Swing categories)

Entry fees for all Strictly Swings: $40

Swingin’ New England will have the following Strictly Swing contests:

Good swing dancing will be rewarded although there are no current swing content restrictions. Lifts are not allowed. Breakaways are allowed. Matching costumes are encouraged but not a requirement.
